Who Can Participate?

 

Shepherd’s Gate offers free Universal Pre-Kindergarten programs for children turning 4 by December 1st . Children must be fully toilet trained.

 

 

What Does The Curriculum Consist Of?

 

UPK places its focus on the healthy development of the whole child by providing a safe, happy, nurturing environment where children are intellectually, socially and physically stimulated while participating in fun activities. The curriculum is based on learning centers and a theme-based approach to learning. Each classroom is equipped with Listening, Block, Math, Science, Reading, Computer, Dramatic Play, Art, and Sand & Water Centers.

 

 

 

What will your child experience in the

Pre-K Program?

 

Shepherd’s Gate provides an exciting classroom environment that will allow children to explore and discover, instilling a love for learning that will follow them throughout their educational lives. Our lessons and activities are developed and implemented such to meet the varying needs of each child.

 

There is a strong emphasis placed on language and literacy development through the use of Story Telling, Songs, Rhymes and books with Repetitive Language Patterns, and Writers Workshop Centers which help the children understand that printed words convey messages.

 

Other Areas Of Enrichment

 

Children will also participate in weekly activities including:

 

Music:     Singing, Dance, Musical Instruments like Ukulele and Drums

 

Gym Class:   Physical Activities That Are Developed To Reinforce What Is Learned In The Classroom Based On The Curriculum

 

Spanish Class:  Children Will Participate In Weekly Spanish Lessons

 

Animal and Nature Clubs:   Children will experience outdoor classroom time on the farm which will introduce them to the human animal-bond that exists through hands on learning activites. They will also be introduced to organic gardening where they will prepare, maintain and harvest their own organic fruit and vegetable garden.
